More than 60 universities and research institutions in Germany and Austria have decided to end their presence on the social network Twitter in protest against Elon Musk's conversation with the leader of the Alternative for Germany party, Alice Weidel. This became known from a DW report.
In a statement, more than 60 academic and research institutions in Germany and Austria, including prestigious universities in Germany, said Twitter was violating their principles.
“The exit is a consequence of the incompatibility of the platform's current orientation with the fundamental values of the institutions involved: impartiality, scientific integrity, transparency and democratic discourse,” the statement said.
The statement also stated that Twitter's algorithms enhance the spread of right-wing populist content and limit other views, making further use of the platform unacceptable.
The German government also said that Twitter and other social networks use algorithms that do not promote “calm, objective and balanced discourse, but on the contrary tend to excite and polarization”.
Recall that Elon Musk's Twitter social network is going to charge a fee for user registration, and it is expected to cost $8.
In addition, Elon Musk plans to hide the date and time of publication of posts displayed in the feed. He believes that this will improve and clean up the social network's interface. Twitter representatives have not yet commented on plans for paid registrations and hiding the date of publications.
At the moment, Elon Musk is not paying attention to the problems in the United States, but to what is happening in Europe. He made a series of scandalous publications regarding German politics and declared support for the far right. He also criticized Scholz and called him a “fool” and “shit” on social media.
