The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation recognized the Center for Strategic and International Studies as an “undesirable” organization

The Russian Justice Ministry has added the American Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) to the list of “undesirable” organizations. Information about this is contained in the updated list of the department, reports “Voice of America”.

The Prosecutor General's Office decided to recognize CSIS as “undesirable” June 11.

CSIS was created in Washington in 1962 on the basis of Georgetown University. Since 1987 he has been working independently. The organization provides strategic analysis of politics, economics and security issues around the world. Russian and foreign journalists periodically refer to CSIS research.

Also included in the list was Dekoder, which was considered “undesirable” organization on May 30. This is an online resource about public life in Europe, Belarus and Russia, which, among other things, collects articles critical of the authorities of Russia and Belarus.

Currently on the “undesirable” list There are more than 160 organizations in Russia. According to the Russian authorities, their activities pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order, security or defense capability of the country.

Inclusion on the list means that the organization is prohibited from operating in the country, and Russian citizens are prohibited from cooperating with it under threat of criminal prosecution. For cooperation with “undesirables” organizations and their financing are subject to criminal liability in Russia – up to five years in prison.

According to estimates by Mediazona, in the first four months of 2024, 19 protocols on “participation” were handed over to Russian courts. in the activities of “undesirable” organizations. Of these, at least 12 protocols were drawn up against readers, employees and authors of Meduza.
