The Lithuanian Army will receive new Vilkas combat vehicles with MK-44S 30 mm guns and Spike LR anti-tank missiles

The new agreement was signed last week by the Organization for Joint Cooperation in the Armaments Sector (OCCAR) on behalf of Lithuania with the German consortium ARTEC, which represents the next stage of the Lithuanian armored vehicle acquisition program.

«These new machines Vilkas will increase the operational capabilities of the Iron Wolf brigade, improving our maneuverability and combat power, indirect fire support and air defense capabilities, — said Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurinas Kasciunas. "This acquisition is a significant step forward in our modernization efforts".

The Lithuanian Army has already received 89 Boxer-Vilkas vehicles, which are currently used by the Algirdas and Birutė battalions of the Iron Wolf Brigade. These BMPs have actively participated in military exercises, helping to increase Lithuania's defense capabilities.

The contract, worth up to 370 million euros, includes not only additional BMPs, but also logistical support such as spare parts, technical equipment and training . Delivery of the vehicles is expected between 2027 and 2029.

ARTEC Boxer-Vilkas vehicles are armed with Israeli-made MK-44S 30mm cannons from the US and Spike LR anti-tank missiles from Israel. Each vehicle is equipped with advanced electronic systems to meet the specific needs of the Lithuanian Army.

As part of the OCCAR Boxer program, Lithuania is cooperating with Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom to procure these advanced armored vehicles. OCCAR oversees the contract and ensures efficient delivery and coordination between manufacturers and participating countries.
