The largest solar power plant in US history will receive 4 million panels and a capacity of 2.4 GW

Sunstone Solar, — a huge project to store solar energy, — will power 800,000 homes.

The Sunstone Solar project will be launched in Oregon (USA). It will use about 4 million solar panels to generate 1,200 MW of electricity — enough to power about 800,000 homes annually, writes Interesting Engineering.

Pine Gate Renewables plans to begin construction in 2026 and is investing more than $1,000 per acre to support local agriculture. The initiative will contribute about $11 million to a fund aimed at helping wheat farmers in the region while increasing the long-term sustainability of Morrow County wheat farms.

Pine Gate already owns and operates 17 other solar projects in Oregon, having acquired Sunstone Solar from Gallatin Power Partners in 2022. In addition, this project — just one of many steps Oregon is taking to achieve its goal of generating all of its electricity from clean energy sources by 2040, while eliminating pollution from power generation.

Sunstone Solar will connect to the grid through the Bonneville Power Administration through the Umatilla Electric Cooperative system; design and procurement will begin in early 2025, with phased construction expected to begin in 2026.
