The key to fast Internet: how to make your Wi-Fi router work better in the summer

A few simple rules will help you set up a Wi-Fi network, as well as simplify the router's tasks and prevent it from leaving out of order.

High temperatures can negatively affect the performance of home Wi-Fi. About how to prevent overheating of the router and avoid a decrease in network speed, the publication The Sun told.

In the heat, not only smartphones, but also routers can work not as efficiently as expected. According to telecommunications expert Sabrina Hock, the location of the router can be crucial. Router cooling systems are not always able to cope with high temperatures, so she recommends installing the device in the coolest room in the house.

The place on the windowsill, or next to it, is not ideal, because it is exposed to direct sunlight. Direct sunlight has a harmful effect on electronics, emphasizes Sabrina. Also, there should be no objects near the router that interfere with signal propagation, for example, stacks of books, flower pots, vases, etc.

All electronic devices function normally due to ventilation. This means they need space to release the hot air unhindered. If the router is surrounded by a lot of other objects, it won't be able to ventilate properly and will eventually overheat, Hoke explained.

It's also important not to overload the router. The more devices connected to it, — smartphones, laptops, tablets, smart speakers, smart TVs, — it is more difficult for him to work. If users can turn off some of the gadgets to lighten the load in hot weather, that might help. Sabrina also notes that the wireless Internet can slow down due to the load, so it will not be superfluous to unload the router.
