EU creates groups of rapid response to hybrid threats

The European Union is creating special operational rapid response groups whose main task will be to prevent harmful hybrid actions and coordinate efforts to eliminate their possible consequences.

According to Ukrinform, this is stated in the information published on the website of the European Council.

«The EU Council today agreed on the guidelines for the practical formation of EU Rapid Response Teams for hybrid threats. This will open the possibility to use such groups on demand, to prepare and counter hybrid threats and campaigns. – the message says.

As noted, such EU Rapid Response Teams are considered a key tool for supporting EU member states and partner countries in countering hybrid threats. As envisaged in the EU Strategic Compass, these groups will provide qualified and targeted short-term assistance to member states, in the interests of EU missions and operations within the framework of the Common Security and Defense Policy, as well as to EU partner countries in the prevention and fight against hybrid threats.< /p>

"Given the worsening security situation, increase (campaigns)  of disinformation, cyber attacks, attacks against critical infrastructure, in the context of using migration (as a weapon), interference in election processes by unfriendly actors, the EU Rapid Response Group on “hybrid threats will be part of the EU's new ability to counter new and future threats,” the message reads. EU in the spheres of security and defense. This document envisages the creation of a new structure within the EU for rapid response to various hybrid threats, for their identification, for combating them and for eliminating possible consequences.

Such a new tool as the EU Rapid Response Teams for Hybrid Threats , will combine the experience of specialists from both civil and military security, which will allow these groups to quickly adapt to new challenges in this area.
