Meta is working on augmented reality (AR) glasses that have the ambitious goal of replacing smartphones and other devices with a spatial interface. Smart glasses will be with HUD. They will allow you to view notifications, receive messages and respond to them, as well as interact with artificial intelligence using the display.
CEO and co-founder of Meta Mark Zuckerberg said this. He expects the glasses to include a small HUD (head-up display) for notifications and interaction with artificial intelligence, allowing users to perceive information in a convenient format. Phones can be used less often with the advent of such glasses.
“…It's not that we will stop carrying the phone with the appearance of such glasses, it will stay in our pocket more often,” said Mark Zuckerberg.
Glasses will allow users to communicate with friends , even if they are in different parts of the world, creating the impression of being in the same space.
Also, future versions of the glasses may include eye and hand tracking, which will allow the use of neural bracelets for gesture control, expanding the possibilities of interaction with devices even more more.
Zuckerberg said Meta is almost ready to show off a prototype of its first AR glasses, but they won't be selling to everyone. Before starting mass production, they want to have a high quality product available.
Meta in September 2023 released a new generation of smart glasses Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, which can be bought for $299. These glasses, developed in collaboration with Ray-Ban, have several improved features compared to previous models released in 2021.
