The bill on a complete ban on smoking for those born after 2009 passed the first vote in the British Parliament. Radio Maximum tells the details in a new article.

This bill was introduced by the Prime Minister of Great Britain Rishi Sunak, but dozens of his party members voted against it. This is reported by Reuters.

383 deputies voted for the draft law, 67 voted against it. It is expected to take effect by 2027.

The bill would make it illegal for anyone born after January 1, 2009 to sell tobacco products. But it aims not to criminalize smoking, but to ban children born in 2009 and later from legally buying tobacco. British Health Minister Victoria Atkins believes that this will help the new generation , smoke-free.

If the bill is finally approved in the House of Lords, Great Britain's smoking legislation will become one of the strictest in the world.

Among the opponents of the smoking ban – members of the Conservative Party of Britain and former heads of government Liz Truss and Boris Johnson. In their opinion, the draft law limits people's freedoms. However, banning smoking for children and teenagers is one of Sunak's main political initiatives ahead of the elections scheduled for the end of 2024. Polls show that the Labor Party can win them.
