While fans of The Boys are eagerly awaiting the final season, announced for 2026, the creator of the comics has just announced news that should make horror fans jump for choice.
During the 1980s and 1990s, a group of British writers revolutionized the writing of American comics. Among them, we obviously count the legendary Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta), Neil Gaiman (The Sandman) and Garth Ennis. The Northern Irish writer, known for his corrosive and trashy humor, is the author of several cult comics: in addition to having written the best run to date of Hellblazer, Ennis created the comics Preacher and The Boys, which were adapted into TV series by AMC and Amazon Prime Video respectively. Becoming a real darling in Hollywood, another of her works (of incredible violence) is currently being adapted.
But unlike the Bard of Northampton, who left the world of comics to concentrate on writing novels, and Neil Gaiman, whose career is in jeopardy due to recent accusations of sexual assault, Garth Ennis is not done with comics. Indeed, we learn today in Deadline that the creator of The Boys is the co-founder of a new comic book label specializing in horror, published by Image Comics(the haven of independent authors). Named Ninth Circle (“Neuvième Cercle“, in French), in reference to the Nine Circles of Dante's Inferno, the labelwill explore all the dark avenues of the horror genre, including the paranormal and the demonic, slashers, creature features, the psychological and with a hint of comedy, all coming to readers directly from the deepest abysses of Hell“, according to a press release.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000In addition to having co-created; the label alongside Adam Glass (showrunner ofThe Equalizerfor CBS), Garth Ennis has signed Ninth Circle's firstone-shot:Freddie the Fix. This first title will tell us the adventures of Freddie, a repairman in charge of cleaning up the damage caused by Hollywood star monsters. As soon as a werewolf, a vampire or an alien has done something “stupid“, he calls Freddie. Mixing horror and comedy, this new comic will be the perfect showcase for the horror label. About this first one-shot, the Northern Irish screenwriter said: “I've always been a big fan of horror.WithFreddie the Fix, I hope to shock, thrill and entertain our fans (and maybe make one or two laugh along the way)“.
Expected from December 11, 2024, Freddie the Fix has begun to reveal himself with the first one-shots. We'll let you enjoy it!
What do you think? Don't hesitate to tell us in the comments section. For our part, we have a hard time hiding our impatience! We hope that Urban Comics will have the French publishing rights for a Ninth Circle anthology.
