The Acolyte: 2 months after its cancellation, this actress gets angry with Disney

A Star Wars: The Acolyte actress didn't hold back with Disney in its handling of the events that led to the series, its actors and actresses being publicly lynched.

The Acolyte : review bombing, hate, racist attacks

As everyone knows, the series Star Wars: The Acolyte was canceled after only one season, which caused a lot of talk. As soon as the last episode of season 1 was released, Disney justified its choice by too low audiences(below almost all other Star Wars series) for a budget that is, on the contrary, substantial (230 million, or 28 million per episode). At the same time, the series was the target of a certain review bombing and numerous racist criticisms throughout its broadcast.

To show their support for showrunner Leslyle Headland, the creative teams behind the project and the cast, as well as to denounce these waves of hate, several actors have spoken out. This is the case, for example, of Amandla Stenberg (who plays twins Osha and Mae in the series), who said she was shocked by all this “unleashing of hyper-conservative bigotry, prejudice, hatred.”

Jodie Turner-Smith lashes out at Disney

More than a month after these unfortunate events, it is the turn of actress Jodie Turner-Smith, the interpreter of Mother Aniseya to return in an article in the British Glamour on all this media lynching of which the series, its actors and actresses have been victims. She first rushed to defend Amandla Stenberg, before pointing out the lack of support from Disney studios to her casting, and to deplore this ambient racism orchestrated by a part of the spectators towards actors and actresses of color.

She put so much care and love into it, and it's disappointing to feel like your studio isn't covering for you in front of the public. They need to stop doing this thing where they don't say anything when people are getting lynched online with racism and bullshit. It's just not fair to not say anything. It's really unfair. It would be nice if the people who have all the money would show their support and put their fist on the table. To say this is unacceptable: “You're not a fan if you do this.” To make a really big statement and see if they lose money. I bet they don't, because people of color, especially black people, represent a very large portion of the purchasing power. They might realize that it's ultimately more lucrative for them, but everyone uses the word woke like it's a dirty word.”

Jodie Turner-Smith concludes by noting that if things are starting to move, the fight must continue more than ever. “Opinions change. What's fashionable changes. We're going to get there one day or another, at that time when people will stop having a stick up their ass about people of color being part of franchises created by white people. You know why? Because we're never going to stop fucking participating.”
