Tesla: Elon Musk presents his Cybercab, a 100% autonomous taxi without steering wheel or pedals

There's no stopping Elon Musk! The South African billionaire who heads SpaceX, X and Tesla has just unveiled futuristic taxis last night. Named Cybercab, this vehicle is 100% autonomous and has no steering wheel or pedals.

Elon Musk's fans have been waiting since 2016 to discover these vehicles capable of driving in total autonomy that the businessman had promised. Finally, it was necessary to be patient because It was only last night that the Tesla boss unveiled his Cybercab on the Internet: a futuristic taxi that is 100% autonomous and that moves without having to use a steering wheel or pedals. 

This vehicle will be able to move without having a driver because Its technology will be based on artificial intelligence and cameras. Its production should begin in 2026 and Elon Musk has announced that this Cybercab should be marketed under the $30,000 mark. Its creator has highlighted its estimated consumption of 20 cents per mile (1.6 km) in electricity. However, the vehicle will not be equipped with an electrical outlet. It will be recharged by induction. Note that 50 prototypes have already been manufactured and Musk has promised that his Cybercabs will be available next year in Texas and California.

He hopes to be able to offer his new kind of robot taxis through an application, a bit like what VTCs currently offer. Finally, the Tesla boss stated that there was 10 to 20 times less risk in traveling with his Cybercab than with a vehicle driven by a human.

During this “We, Robot” presentation which took place in front of the Warner Bros. studios, Elon Musk also unveiled another vehicle: the robovan. This much larger vehicle is also autonomous and can carry up to twenty people. This futuristic bus that moves without a driver and the wheels are not visible to us does not yet have a marketing date.

Finally, the SpaceX boss ended his event, by demonstrating his humanoid robots called Optimus which aim to help humanity for domestic tasks and creating friendly relationships. These robots that paraded during the evening and served drinks and posed for photos with the people present will be offered at 18,300 and 27,500 euros but for the moment, there is still no marketing date for them.
