Taken from real life. “Mom shaved my daughter”: The little one is 3 years old and looks like who knows who

One afternoon I left my three-year-old daughter, Ola, in the care of her mother.

My mother always had her own rules and ways of doing everything. She often said that what she did as a mother was the best, and I – as a young mother – I had no idea how to raise a child. I always took her comments with a pinch of salt, but what happened recently exceeded my wildest imagination.

One afternoon I left my three-year-old daughter, Ola, in the care of her mother. I had an important meeting at work and I knew that Grandma would be happy to look after her granddaughter. Ola adored her grandmother – they played together, baked cookies and read fairy tales. I always felt that I could count on her.

When I returned a few hours later, I couldn't believe my eyes. My little daughter was sitting on a chair in the kitchen, her head completely shaved. All her beautiful, blond hair was gone.

– „Mommy, what have you done?!” – I exclaimed, barely holding back tears.

Mom looked at me with complete calm, as if what she had done was the most normal thing in the world.

– „Ola had damaged ends. Besides, children need to shave their heads so that their hair grows stronger. You'll see, in a few months you'll thank me for it.”

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I tried to explain that I would never agree to something like that, but Mom just waved it off.

– „Stop being so dramatic. It's just hair, it'll grow back. Besides, baby hair is weak anyway. It's better that I did it now.”

Ola, who had been playing with dolls up until now, looked at me with her big eyes. She didn't understand why I was so upset. To her, it was just a new hairstyle, a fun change. But to me, it was something more – Mom had crossed a line she should never have crossed.

Over the next few days, I tried to come to terms with the situation. Ola began to notice that something was wrong, especially when other children in the kindergarten started asking questions.

– „Mommy, why is my hair short? Am I ugly?”

Those words broke my heart. I told her she was the most beautiful girl in the world, but I saw her becoming more and more insecure with each passing day.

I tried to talk to my mom about what happened, but every time we ended up arguing.

„Times have changed, mom. You don't have to shave your kids' heads anymore so they have pretty hair!”

– “Times may have changed, but people's stupidity hasn't. Trust me, I know what I'm doing.”

I felt like this situation was driving us apart. For the first time in my life, I felt like I couldn't trust my own mother with matters concerning my child. I started to limit visits because I was afraid of what else she might do “for Ola's good.

Weeks passed, and Ola's hair began to grow back. But the mark this situation left remained in my heart. It wasn't just about the hair – it was about the lack of respect for my boundaries, for my right as a mother to make decisions about my child.

I realized that I had to be stronger and more assertive to protect Ola from similar situations in the future. I love my mom, but now I know that sometimes love requires setting boundaries. Even if it means conflict with someone who has been the closest person to me my whole life.
