Super-powerful UAV with FAB-250 bomb: military and experts spoke about the unique Ukrainian development

For attacks on strategic and military targets in the Russian Federation, Ukraine is already using its unique development – drones carrying FAB-250 bombs. The Unmanned Systems Forces Command confirmed the use of a long-range UAV capable of carrying a 250-kilogram air bomb and covering up to 2 thousand. km with the possibility of return, informs FREEDOM.

Russian strategic facilities have been regularly attacked recently, but the actual consequences of the strikes indicate the opposite.

“Operators of the 14th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Aviation Complexes of the Unmanned Systems Forces have been striking behind enemy lines for over a year, covering hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of kilometers. There have already been dozens of such missions, and there will be more”, — noted the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine.

On January 31, the command of the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine confirmed the use of a long-range UAV capable of carrying a 250-kilogram aerial bomb and covering up to two thousand kilometers. Drones can also return to base, making them one of the most effective developments of Ukrainian engineers, analysts say.

“If the Ukrainian military can arrange for the drones to be safely returned after the mission, these devices will become reusable weapons. This will allow them to be used to attack multiple targets, which will significantly increase the effectiveness of strikes on Russian oil infrastructure”, — analyst David Axe noted in a publication by Forbes.

The use of drones carrying FAB-250 bombs and other long-range UAVs of its own production, according to experts, will allow Ukraine to influence the enemy's actions on the battlefield.

“This is an increase in strategic influence on the enemy and its military infrastructure, on the one hand. On the other hand, — this is the creation of a so-called safety cushion. Because regardless of the form in which and when the hostilities end, Ukraine will need to have a sufficiently large arsenal of long-range weapons to prevent any attempts by the enemy to continue or resume hostilities”, — believes aviation expert, member of the public council at the State Aviation Service Bohdan Dolintse.

The nature of war now dictates a change to fiber-optic drones. It makes the drone invulnerable to electronic warfare and invisible to drone detectors. Such drones are already actively used by the Ukrainian military, noting a number of their advantages.

“This is the absence of such problems for us as radio horizons, radio interference, complex terrain. The fiber unwinds, it lies perfectly in the forest, on water, on any unevenness. And we have clear control until the very last moment — to the target”, — said the representative of the Dronarium academy with the call sign “Ruda”.

Ukrainian specialists not only created a drone controlled via a fiber optic cable, but also invented means to intercept similar enemy UAVs.

Allies continue to help Ukraine with the purchase of drones. So, on Monday, February 3, at the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia, officials will announce the dispatch of a batch of 100 drones purchased as part of a public initiative to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
