Suitable for balconies and roofs: a schoolboy invented an innovative wind generator (video)

The model of a vertical wind generator developed by a Ukrainian sixth-grader starts at a wind speed of 1.3 m/s, catches wind from any direction and works silently.

Artem Yasynskyi, a 6th-grade student of Kamianets-Podilskyi Lyceum No. 1, won the all-Ukrainian competition “Energy efficiency and ecology for schoolchildren”, presenting a model of a vertical windmill that solves the key problems of traditional wind generators. In the video presentation, the schoolboy said that his device is able to capture the wind from any direction and has a lower starting force than the average horizontal analog. The device starts at a wind speed of 1.3 m/s. Mobility and noiselessness make it possible to install it even on the roofs and balconies of buildings.

A generator in the form of a collector electric motor with direct current serves as a source of electricity. In addition to the electric motor, the scheme of the power source includes: a charge module, switches, a solar panel and a lithium-polymer battery.

Artem Yasynskyi noted that the wind speed changes at different times, when choosing a location for a wind generator, you need to consider the graphs of the daily , seasonal and monthly speed distribution. In his project, the schoolboy studied the wind intensity on the territory of Kamianets-Podilskyi. In addition, he calculated the dependence of the voltage on the wind speed, demonstrating the maximum efficiency of the installation at relatively low wind speeds.
