In the Star Wars prelogy, the corruption of the Galactic Senate and the problems that this causes are all the more known as they participate in the fall of the Republic and the the advent of the Empire. However, when we look closer it turns out that another organ of the Galactic Republic is even more corrupt than the Senate and it is this that we are looking at today.
The corruption of this galaxy has no limits
When we discover the Galactic Senate in Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, we quickly realize; to what extent corruption has corrupted; this organ of the Republic. When the blockade of Naboo is exposed with Chancellor Valorum, it turns out that the latter has no power and the corruption exerted by the Trade Guild is far too great on this galactic assembly. A helplessness that leads to the election of Palpatine and in Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clonesthe gift of full powers to this one, in order to best combat the Separatist Military Forces. Then, as we all know, the reorganization of the Republic into the Galactic Empire at the end of the Clone Wars, in Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, by a fine manipulation of the Senate on the part of the Supreme Chancellor. If this organ of the Republic is sadly corrupt to the point of the marrow, there is another which is just as much, if not even more so in certain ways: it is the justice of the Galactic Supreme Court.
Even if it is not shown explicitly to the screen, it is during a council meeting in the throne room of Naboo in Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones, that Governor Sio Bibble holds these remark:
It is scandalous that after four trials before the Galactic Supreme Court, Nute Gunray is still the reigning viceroy of the Federation [of Commerce].
< p>Lyrics that refer to the events of Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, where Viceroy Nute Gunray is arrested by the Republic after the defeat of his armies on Naboo. An arrest at the result of which the life-king of the Trade Federation seems not to have been killed. condemned by the Galactic Supreme Court. These are there; words loaded with meaning, because if the fact that the Galactic Senate is corrupt is hardly surprising, knowing that it is the center of the political life of the Galaxy, the fact that the Galactic Supreme Court has not condemned Nute Gunray implies that it is just as corrupt, even though it is the organ that is supposed to be corrupted. apply justice and be the most blameless in the Republic (not counting the Jedi Order).
