Star Wars: Here's Who Is More Powerful: Kanan Jarrus and Cal Kestis

Few Jedi survived Order 66. However, some peacekeepers managed to slip through Palpatine's net and secretly fought against the Empire. Kanan Jarrus and Cal Kestis, for example, are among the Jedi. So who is the most powerful between these two iconic Jedi?

WHO ARE THEY?

Initially, Kanan Jarrus called himself Caleb Dume. In fact, that was his real name during the Republic. When Palpatine enacted Order 66, Kanan is still very young, and is only an inexperienced Padawan. As shown in The Bad Batch, his Master Depa Billada manages to save his life, and Kanan flees, alone, into the wild. He will finish his Jedi training alone.

But it is especially in Star Wars Rebels that Kanan is largely developed. He is, with Hera Syndulla, the captain of the Ghost. The couple surrounds themselves with iconic characters including Sabine Wren and Zeb. This small, close-knit team decides to take the young Ezra Bridger under their wing.. Kanan becomes his Master and teaches him the basics of the Jedi art. Later in the series, Kanan becomes blind during a confrontation with Darth Maul. He then loses his life in an explosion at the end of the series. But Kanan Jarrus has largely marked the minds of fans, and has become an iconic character in the Star Wars

For his part, Cal Kestis is a character who was born in the Star Wars video games. Main protagonist of the games Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Cal Kestis is also a young Padawan who survived Order 66. During the execution of Order 66, the Master of Cal, Jaro Tapal, sacrifices himself to save his apprentice, allowing Cal to escape. Traumatized by the death of his master and the betrayal of the clones, Cal goes into hiding and cuts his connection to the Force to avoid detection by the Empire. For years, he leads a simple life as a scrap metal dealer on the planet Bracca.

Unfortunately, the Inquisitorseventually track him down. The Second Sister decides to hunt him down. During his escape, Cal Kestis meets other characters such as Cere Junda, a former Jedi who seeks to reform the Jedi Order. Cal then sets out on a quest to find an ancient Jedi Holocron containing a list of Force-sensitive children, a hope for rebuilding the Jedi Order.

WHO IS MORE POWERFUL?

Actually, the two Jedi have a lot in common. They were both Padawans during the Republic, their Masters both died during Order 66, and they survived Palpatine's coup. Later, both characters cut themselves off from the Force to avoid detection by the Empire, before joining the Rebellion. Both then went hunting for the Holocron, surrounded by their friends. Similar trajectories, which make them equivalent Jedi.

Objectively measuring the power levels of a Jedi is almost impossible. Some prefer knowledge and wisdom over brute force. Some focus on wielding swords while others prefer to control the Force. Considering everything Cal and Kanan have been through and have to do to survive, their physical skills as Jedi are more important than anything else.

Overall, Cal Kestis has more Force abilities than Kanan Jarrus. A superiority that he owes to the media in which he appears. As video games, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor must feature a powerful character, with pyrotechnic abilities sufficiently developed to impress the gamer. With a saber, Cal is much more skilled than Kanan. But, most importantly, Cal possesses a rare Force ability called Psychometry. An ability that allows him to have fragmented visions of the past and future through a simple object.

On the other hand, Kanan has learned to communicate with the Force itself. Especially when he went blind. He even encountered a Bendu, a mythological creature that lives within the lines of the Force and manifests itself only to a handful of initiates. Initially, Kanan was probably a more powerful Jedi than Cal. But his handicap limits him in the art of hand-to-hand combat. Similarly, a third game around Cal is planned. And the latter should gain even more power. Result: 1-0 for Cal!
