Star Wars: focus on these LGBTQ+ characters little known to the general public

You may not know it, but the Star Wars universe is full of LGBTQ+ characters. Indeed, even if Disney is considered by its dementors as a woke company that perverts the Star Wars universe, LGBTQ+ characters have existed in the galaxy far, far away, long before Disney bought LucasFilm. The proof with these LGBTQ+ characters:

Characters from the literary universe

Rae Sloane

Rae Sloane is an ambitious Imperial officer who quickly rises through the ranks. Introduced in 2014 in A New Dawn (a prequel to the Star Wars Rebels series), she reveals her bisexuality in the novel Riposte: Fall of the Empire in 2020.

Sister

Sister is initially a clone of the most classic. But, over time, Sister decides to assume her gender identity, and becomes the very first transsexual clone. Introduced in 2020 in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Stories of Light and Dark, Sister embraces her identity of gender and thus becomes the very first trans clone in the Star Wars universe.

Yrica Quell

< strong>Yrica Quellis a central character in the novel series Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron. Her story is closely linked to the period following the fall of the Galactic Empire. Yrica Quell is a former Imperial pilot who served in the infamous Shadow Wing. Shocked by the Empire's methods, including the destruction of Alderaan, she decides to desert the Empire after the Battle of Endor. She then decides to offer her services to the New Republic as an X-Wing pilot. As early as the first volume of Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron, Yrica Quell is presented as a bisexual character.

Ariole Yu and Just Chance

Ariole Yu and Just Chance are secondary characters introduced in the Alphabet Squadron trilogy of novels. These two characters belong to the squadron, but their role is less central than that of Yrica Quell. Above all, the two men are a couple. Which makes them one of the rare gay couples in the Star Wars universe.

Chelli Lona Aphra

Her name may not mean anything to you, but Chelli Lona Aphra is an emblematic character from the expanded Star Wars universe. Nicknamed Doctor AlphaShe plays a recurring role in the comics. She was first introduced in 2015's Darth Vader 3. Aphra is a rebellious and opportunistic archaeologist who specializes in recovering ancient technology. Recruited by Vader after the Battle of Yavin, she usually works solo or with the highest bidder. Her creator, Kieron Gillen, has confirmed that Doctor Aphra was a lesbian.

Leox Gyasi

Leox Gyasi was captain of the Bylne Guild during the High Republic. Leox Gyasi mainly appears in the novel Into the Dark (2021) by Claudia Gray. A novel in which it is confirmed that Leox Gyasi is asexual.

Terec and Ceret

Terec and Ceret were two transsexual Jedi and non-binary. They evolved during the High Republic. These twins connected by consciousness and the Force make their first appearance in Star Wars: The High Republic. They first appeared in January 2021, and were featured in a comic book on International Transgender Day of Visibility in June 2021.

Cair San Tekka and Xylan Graf

Cair San Tekka and Xylan Grafare characters from the High Republic era in the Star Wars universe. They belong to two of the most influential families in the field of hyperspace cartography and trade in the galaxy at that time: the San Tekka and the Graf. They form a forbidden gay couple because their two families are rivals. Two iconic characters who live their forbidden love in secret.

Lula Talisola and Zeen Mrala

Mainly developed in Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, written by Daniel José Older, Lula Talisola and Zeen Mrala evolve during the High Republic. The two women, one Jedi, the other Padawan, form one of the most beautiful relationships in the High Republic by fully living their lesbian love.

Sinjir Rath Velus

Introduced in 2015 in the trilogy of novels Star Wars: Riposte (set after Return of the Jedi) by Chuck Wendig, Sinjir Rath Velus is the first gay character in the Star Wars universe. He is a former Imperial officer turned member of the New Republic. Sinjir Rath Velus is arguably the first openly LGBTQ+ character in the Star Wars universe.

Delian Mors

Introduced in the 2015 novel Star Wars: Lords of the Sith, Delian Mors is an Imperial Moff. She is also one of the first LGBTQ+ characters, since in the novel, it is mentioned that before joining the Empire, she lived with her late wife.

In the video games

Varko Grey

Introduced in the game Star Wars: Squadrons, this TIE pilot has a romantic relationship with Emory, a man who works on Kuat. The two lovers even got married later.

Keo Venzee

Also featured in Star Wars: Squadrons, Keo Venzee is a Mirialan who is sensitive to the Force who considers herself non-binary.

Merrin

Introduced in Jedi: Fallen Order, Merrin is a Nightsister from Dathomir. In the novel Jedi: Battle Scars, we learn that Merrin is actually pansexual.

In Film and Television

Vernestra Rwoh

Developed in the series The Acolyte, Vernestra Rwoh, according to her creator Justina Ireland, is an asexual and aromantic character. Which means that she does not feel sexual attraction or romantic attraction to anyone.

Lando Calrissian

Present in the original trilogy in the form of Billy Dee Williams, the character is further developed in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Played by Donald Glover, it is confirmed by one of the film's screenwriters that Lando is pansexual.

Sabé

Present in the prequel (especially in The Phantom Menace), Sabé is the most fervent servant of Padmé during her reign. She was even her political double. In the novel The Queen's Shadow by E.K. Johnston, it is confirmed that Sabé has feelings for her queen

Amylin Holdo

Vice Admiral Holdo introduced in Star Wars, Episode VIII: The Last Jedihas always had a close friendship with General Organa. In the novel Leia: Princess of Alderaan, author Claudia Gray decides to make Amylin Holdo a character with free sexuality. She explains in the novel that she is equally attracted to men and women as she is to other species.

Larma D’Acy

Present in the postlogy, Larma D’Acy is one of the commanders of the Resistance. She is in a relationship with Wrobie Tyce, another rebel. Information that was revealed in the encyclopedia of Star Wars, Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. It is also at the end of this last film that spectators can discover the two characters kissing briefly.

The Rônin

The latter made a strong impression in the very first episode of the series Star Wars Vision. A mysterious, charismatic and ambiguous character, he is then developed in the novel Star Wars Visions: Rônin, in which we learn that he is pansexual.

Vel Sartha and Cinta Kaz

Cousin of Mon Mothma, Vel Sarthawas introduced in the Star Wars: Andor series. During the series, Vel develops a romantic relationship with Cinta Kaz, a member of the rebel infiltration team on Aldhani.

Orka and Flix< /h2>

These two characters are members of the Acquisitions Office on the Colossus, a fuel station central to the plot of Star Wars Resistance.Although it was initially thought to be a duo, one of the series' producers confirmed on the Coffe with Kenobi podcast in 2019 , that the two characters do indeed form a gay couple.
