Spain has captured a NATO battle group near Slovakia. The deployment of at least 780 troops is aimed at preventing Russia from attacking NATO countries, writes the Spanish newspaper ABC. The deployment of troops was a record for the country in Eastern Europe.

The combat group consists of citizens of Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, the USA, Turkey and the Czech Republic. Its total number is over 1.5 thousand. special As ABC clarifies, the deployment of armed forces is aimed at NATO “showing its strength” Russia.

Spain took on the responsibility for participating in the mission a year ago at the NATO summit in Lithuania. The deployment of troops on the territory of the Slovak base in Leste began in January 2024 and lasted six months.

A NATO summit will be held in Washington on July 9-11. In it, the members of the alliance, as expected, will offer Ukraine long-term financial assistance to repel Russian aggression.
