The European Commission aims to conduct a test to analyze whether social networks are sufficiently countering disinformation. The decision was prompted by the German elections.
This is reported by Reuters.
Microsoft, TikTok, LinkedIn, Google, Snap, Meta and X were invited to take part in the test on January 31, in order to make sure that they comply with all the online protection measures required by the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA).
“The stress test really looks at potential scenarios where DSA comes into play and checks with the platforms how they would react to these specific scenarios,” – said EU representative Thomas Rainier.
A TikTok representative immediately stated that received an invitation and will participate in the meeting, while representatives of Meta, Snap, Alphabet, X, Microsoft and LinkedIn have not yet responded to requests.
According to Rainier, this test will be the first to be carried out for national elections, after it was carried out last year before the European Parliament elections.
“It was very successful… so there is a desire for it to be done together with the German authorities,” – he said.
The EU spokesman also added that the test would take place behind closed doors.
