Orion smart glasses can replace smartphones/Meta

Mark Zuckerberg, an American businessman and chairman, chief executive officer and controlling shareholder of Meta Platforms, predicted that smart glasses will replace phones by 2030.

Last week, American multinational technology conglomerate Meta, formerly known as Facebook, announced the launch of new Orion augmented reality (AR) glasses. Orion is Meta's most advanced augmented reality (AR) glasses, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at the company's annual Connect 2024 conference, according to AIM.

These are the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen, and they offer a glimpse into a future where smart glasses will replace smartphones as the primary means of communication, said Zuckerberg.

According to Meta, the new Orion AR glasses combine the physical and virtual worlds, helping users to be more present in the virtual world, integrating it with reality.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said: “It is a physical world with holograms superimposed on it. For now, I think it's better to look at Orion as a time machine, these glasses exist, they're awesome, and they're a glimpse into the future, which I think is going to be pretty exciting.”

In addition, the new glasses will allow users to have a diverse digital experience and providelarge 3D visual display. Made of magnesium alloy and powered by special silicon developed by Meta, the lightweight glasses are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, allowing people to clearly see each other's faces, eyes and expressions.

Meta said its new smart glasses are equipped with cutting-edge technology and holographic displays that provide excellent augmented reality capabilities. The new Orion glasses will support voice commands, eye and hand tracking, and have a bracelet for swiping, clicking and scrolling.

Zuckerberg believes that smart glasses will reduce the number of human errors, improve visualization data and monitor users' health. However, the company faces significant challenges such as comfort, compatibility with other glasses, battery life and data security. These challenges must be addressed if smart glasses are to successfully replace smartphones by 2023, as Zuckerberg and Meta expect.
