Secret Android operating system settings worth trying on any smartphone

Android is famous for its flexibility, which allows you to deeply customize the system thanks to numerous modifications, custom firmware and skins. In contrast, iOS remains more closed, although recently it has been moving towards greater freedom for users.

However, to make your Android smartphone more convenient, it is not at all necessary to use modified firmware or special programs. Every Android device has hidden features accessible through the developer menu.

How to access the developer menu?

  1. Go to the settings section «About phone».
  2. Find the «Build number» item and tap on it 7 times in a row.
  3. After that, a new section will appear in the settings ’ «For Developers».

Now let's look at the useful functions that can be found in this menu:

1. Force maximum screen refresh rate

If your smartphone supports a refresh rate higher than 60 Hz, you can enable this option. Usually, the frequency changes automatically depending on your actions, but this feature sometimes works unstable. You can force 90 or 120 Hz in the developer menu. This will make the screen work smoother, although it will slightly increase battery consumption.

2. Select Bluetooth codec

Here you can manually set the Hi-Res audio codec if your device and headphones support it, but it is not automatically activated. This will improve the sound quality.

3. Show touches

This option allows you to visually display touch points on the screen. It can be useful for diagnosing the sensor or when demonstrating the operation of applications.

4. Animation settings

To speed up the interface, you can change the window animation speed. The default value is 1x, but changing it to 0.5x will make the interface noticeably faster. For smoother operation, you can set it to 1.5x or even more.

5. Minimum Width (DPI)

This setting allows you to change the scale of the content on the screen, adjusting it to your needs. For example, you can reduce the size of elements to display more information on the screen.
