Researchers have developed an artificial intelligence called CrystaLLM that can predict the atomic structures of crystals. This discovery will accelerate the creation of new materials for batteries, solar panels and microchips.
Scientists from The University of Reading and University College London have presented an AI model that analyzes the atomic structures of crystals and predicts their arrangement. This innovation can significantly simplify the development of materials for alternative energy and modern technologies.
The model works on the principle of text chatbots, studying the «language» of crystals based on millions of known structures. Instead of complex physical calculations, CrystaLLM analyzes standard crystal descriptions, identifying patterns and predicting new structures.
CrystaLLM has shown the ability to generate realistic crystal structures even for materials it has not analyzed before. The system will be useful in developing new materials to improve batteries, increase the efficiency of solar panels, and accelerate microchips.
A free website has already been created for the scientific community, where CrystaLLM is available for generating crystal structures. This technology can radically change approaches to creating new materials, contributing to the development of renewable energy sources.
