German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that strikes by German weapons on Russian territory will not escalate the conflict, but will only allow Ukraine to defend its major cities.
He said this on the air of Antenne Bayern radio, DW reports.
Scholz stressed that the decision to allow Ukraine to use German weapons to strike Russia was carefully thought out in cooperation with “friends and allies” Germany.
At the same time, the German Chancellor assured that he would never allow pressure to be put on him in order to persuade him to make “wrong and untimely decisions.”
Recall that at the end of May, the German government allowed Ukraine to use German weapons to strike at Russian territory “in accordance with international law,” but only at Russian border areas near the Kharkov region.
Prior to this, Olaf Scholz spoke out against the use of German weapons to strike at Russian territory, noting that there are “clear rules for the supply of German weapons that have been agreed upon with Ukraine and are working.”
