Samsung will introduce a completely new product in January, but the announcement will not be made until the end of this year

Samsung may show off its long-rumored smart glasses next year. This is likely to be a response to the Vision Pro headset as the device is expected to have augmented reality features. However, the Korean brand has an advantage here, because its form factor is clearly ahead of Apple.

What is known about the new product

According to the report, Samsung plans to launch its smart glasses in January. This will probably happen on the same day as the presentation of the new Galaxy S25 smartphones. Interestingly, the software that will run on the glasses is supposedly going to be revealed sometime “this month”, that is, in December, which means an automatic announcement of the new product by the end of the year, reports 24 Channel with reference to 9to5Google.

It is expected that the demonstration in January will not be a full-fledged presentation before the final release. Instead, the company will make a small teaser in the form of a “video or image”. This is similar to how Samsung first introduced the Galaxy Ring smart ring earlier this year: the company showed it off at the end of its Unpacked event in the form of a short teaser that only revealed the design, but not the specifications. We only learned more about the rings at MWC in February, and got the finished product in July, along with the new foldable devices.

So the actual release of the augmented reality glasses could happen sometime in the second or third quarter of 2025.

Samsung has been working with Google on the software for these glasses for some time. The two companies first announced the partnership back in February 2023. Judging by the statements, the software platform for the XR product will be based on the Android operating system.

  • The augmented reality smart glasses are expected to look like regular sunglasses, weigh about 50 grams, and use Google Gemini artificial intelligence.

  • Features will include gesture recognition and some form of payment support.
  • Most likely, they are focused on everyday practicality, not flashy immersion, so in terms of entertainment they are definitely not will compete with Apple Vision Pro.
  • Previously, there were also rumors that the device will be equipped with a Qualcomm AR1 chipset, a 12-megapixel Sony IMX681 ultra-wide-angle camera and a 155 mAh battery. In general, this is the same league as glasses from Ray-Ban and Meta.

The presentation of smartphones and glasses will probably take place on January 22. The price is still unknown.
