Russian warships went to the Caribbean to participate in exercises, – USA

USA are monitoring Russian warships and aircraft that are expected to arrive in the Caribbean in the coming weeks to participate in military exercises.

US officials said this, reports  Associated Press agency.

The appearance of Russian ships should be a demonstration of Russian power amid increasing tensions due to Western military support for Ukraine.

It is possible that the ships will also make calls at the ports of Venezuela and Cuba as Russia builds a military presence in the Western Hemisphere that senior Biden administration officials describe as visible but not alarming.

The exercise, which will be overseen by the U.S. military, will involve " a handful” Russian warships and support vessels.

The officials spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity to discuss details that have not been publicly announced.

The exercises are "undoubtedly" are part of a broader Russian response to US support for Ukraine.

But with their help, Russian President Vladimir Putin also wants to show that the Russian navy is still capable of projecting power globally after losing several ships in the strikes Ukraine, US officials said.
