Russia may be behind DHL plane crash in Lithuania – Bundeswehr general

The DHL cargo plane crash in Lithuania near Vilnius airport could have become a kind of test by which Russia is trying to identify the vulnerabilities of Western countries.

This opinion was expressed by Bundeswehr Inspector General Carsten Breuer on the air of the program «Maischberger» on the ARD TV channel, reports Ukrinform.

When asked by the moderator whether this incident could be a test for finding weak, vulnerable spots, Breuer answered in the affirmative: «Yes, absolutely».

According to the military, this «trace» is the one that is logically being discussed. The general recalled a similar situation that occurred in the summer of this year.

«And now there (in Lithuania – ed.) something happened that somehow fits into this scheme», – he noted.

According to Breuer, Putin is creating a hybrid situation that is «not quite peace and not quite war». He is «moving in this gray area», including to test how far he can go, and groping for «moves» that he will be ready to use if he deems it necessary or desirable.

Speaking of the forecast that Russia could attack NATO in 5-8 years, the inspector general noted that this – expert calculations based on different data.

As reported, last Monday a cargo plane flying for DHL from Leipzig, Germany to Vilnius, crashed into a residential area near the airport. One of the four crew members died, three of whom are German, are in hospital. No one on the ground was injured.
