Russia is behind almost a hundred hybrid attacks in Europe in 2024, says Czech Foreign Minister

Russia may be involved in almost 100 incidents in Europe that are classified as hybrid attacks, espionage or influence operations.

This was stated by Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky during a meeting of NATO ministers in Brussels, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to Reuters.

According to him, in 2024, Europe recorded about 500 suspicious incidents, of which up to 100 hybrid attacks can be directly linked to Russia.

“We must send a strong signal to Moscow that we will not tolerate this,” the Czech minister stressed.

It is reported that the NATO meeting also discussed steps to strengthen collective security and counter hybrid threats.

In addition, the Alliance members confirmed the importance of sharing intelligence and coordinating efforts in the fight against espionage and disinformation.

Russian hybrid attacks in Europe

Russia is actively using hybrid means in Europe, combining cyberattacks, disinformation, espionage and physical sabotage to destabilize region.

In 2024, numerous incidents were recorded that illustrate the scale of this aggression.

Russian hackers are targeting critical infrastructure, including energy and government systems, in countries such as Poland, Latvia, and Germany. Fake news is also spreading, including numerous instances of anti-Ukrainian propaganda.

Russian agents are also suspected of blowing up undersea communications cables and gas pipelines, particularly in the Baltic region. This forced European countries to sign an agreement on the protection of underwater infrastructure.

In addition, Russian intelligence services are increasing their influence on local politicians and public organizations in Europe. For example, in Moldova, the Russians tried to interfere in this year's presidential election.
