Unknown drones could be of a commercial type and fly at low speeds and at low altitudes.
In Romania, unknown drones flew over a military airbase on the night of April 15-16, an investigation has begun. This was reported by the press service of the country's Air Force.
The drones were recorded using electronic, optical and visual means. The drones were small in size. The message says that they were most likely of a commercial type and developed at low speeds and at low altitude.
The military was promptly informed about the situation. Means of radio-electronic warfare were repeatedly used, radar and visual contact with the last two systems was lost around 00:30.
The command of the 57th air base named after Mykhailo Kogalnichanu transferred the case to the Military Prosecutor's Office for the application of measures provided for by the legislation in such situations. The military unit also appointed an appropriate commission to investigate the incident, headed by the chief of staff of the 57th airbase.
The 57th airbase named after Mykhailo Kogelnychanu is located in Konstanz county . It is the basis for the construction of the largest NATO base in Europe, which will accommodate up to 10,000 military personnel. The €2.5 billion construction project includes runways, hangars for military aircraft, weapons platforms, as well as kindergartens, schools, shops and a hospital.
The facility can be built in 2040. The project aims to strengthen air infrastructure, including new runways, a new control tower, beacons and radio navigation system, flight simulator, and hangars.
