Registration will become paid: Elon Musk plans innovations for the X platform, — media

The entrepreneur wants to remove date stamps from posts in the feed to “improve the interface” and set a registration fee for new users.

American billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is considering changes to the functionality of the X platform (formerly — Twitter). He plans to remove date stamps from posts and set a registration fee of $ 8 for new users, Fortune writes citing its sources.

According to insiders, Musk has been pushing the idea of removing dates from X posts in recent weeks. The entrepreneur suggests removing dates from the general feed, and you can see the time of creation of the post by clicking on it. According to Musk, this will improve the user interface. However, some employees believe that it will make the platform “confusing” and worsen the problem of misinformation, because most users only scroll through the feed, without going to individual posts.

A representative for X did not respond to requests for comment, journalists note.

Elon Musk wants to make X a paid registration

Musk plans to introduce a fee of $ 8 for registering new users on the X platform as early as February 2025. According to sources, new users will also receive one free month of X Premium — a $7-a-month subscription that gives users a blue verification checkmark.

One insider explained that the X sign-up fee had been in the works for months, and the company is positioning it as a step toward cracking down on bots on the platform. The idea was tested in the Philippines and New Zealand a year ago, with a $1 fee.

While Musk said at the time that it wasn't about increasing profits, he has now said that paid sign-up is “the only way” to make X profitable, the source said.
