Real Life. “My Son Didn't Take My Side”: I Put on My Coat, Grabbed My Bag, and Left Without Saying Goodbye to My Grandchildren

Maria is an energetic woman, despite being over 60, she feels like she's 45 at most.

She is constantly on the move, never giving herself a moment's respite. She has an only son, who fell in love with Anna eight years ago and married her. Maria immediately recognized her daughter-in-law's selfish nature and was not particularly enthusiastic, but she did not disapprove of her son's choice.

Anna disliked everything her mother-in-law did: she thought her presents were cheap, and she forbade her grandchildren from spending time alone with their grandmother, saying she did not know what her mother-in-law could teach them there. On the other hand, she called her mother almost every day and treated her better, which was not surprising – her parents helped her financially.

The decisive disappointment came on Christmas Eve. The son invited his mother to celebrate with him, promising that it would be just Anna's parents and herself. On December 24, he picked up his mother, took her home, and went to pick up his wife's parents. Maria immediately asked if her daughter-in-law would mind, but her son assured her that everything was fine.

At the appointed hour, her son picked her up and went to park the car himself. But as soon as she crossed the street, she was shocked: the children had been in their pajamas since morning, the house was a mess, things were scattered around, and the kitchen was littered with dirty dishes.

Surprised, Maria told her grandchildren that this was no way to celebrate Christmas. In the kitchen, she was told that food would be brought in from a restaurant, but while she was washing the dishes, her youngest granddaughter asked for a cloth to dust off the dust.

“I looked in the fridge – there was a lot of food in there. My son came back, I went to my daughter-in-law's room, and she was lying there saying that she didn't have time to talk, that she was tired after work. I couldn't help but say, “How tired? You don't work on a construction site, you work on a computer!” She just waved at me.

Then I went to see my oldest granddaughter, but she was also on the phone. I offered to help me get ready, but then a woman ran into the room Anka, shouting that I have no right to rule her house.”

Maria sighed in embarrassment, and her son came in and asked what was going on. She put on her coat and shoes and left without even saying goodbye. At night, she thought that she basically had no one to miss and it would be better to eat Christmas Eve fish with vegetable salad alone than to deal with the “modern” approach to celebrating Christmas…
