Real-life. “Mother-in-law Only Posts Family Photos That Don't Include Me”: I Don't Understand Why She Does This To Me

My future husband Albert and I attended university together.

He sat at my desk at the beginning of my first semester and stayed by my side throughout my college years. Our group called us inseparable.

At the end of my fifth year, he asked me to marry him, which I gladly accepted. And then he invited me to his house to meet his mother. I was very nervous about meeting my future mother-in-law. And, as it turned out, for good reason. On the very first day, Albert's mother passionately interrogated me.

Perhaps, in her opinion, I was not perfect in everything. At the wedding, instead of celebrating and having fun from the heart, I constantly encountered Isabella's cold gaze and tried to behave in a way that would please her. After the wedding, I posted our wedding photos on social media. I was very surprised when my husband told me that his mother had also posted photos on her page.

I was very curious about the photos my mother-in-law decided to publish and in what sauce she served them. Of course, I added her as a friend and looked through her profile. Under the hashtag “My son's new status – married” there were photos from our wedding. Albert signed, holding the wedding ring and a few other photos. But somehow it happened that I was not in any of them. To be more precise, in one of the photos where my husband and I were dancing, I was photographed from behind.

To be honest, at first I thought that my mother-in-law had chosen the photos in which her son looked the best. In principle, this is quite understandable and logical. But then I started to notice that my mother-in-law often posts photos from family celebrations on her page. For some reason, none of them showed me. Maybe I was out when the photo was taken and it just happened that way.

But then I discovered that my mother-in-law had deliberately cropped the photo so that I wouldn’t be in it. I remembered exactly that I was next to Albert during the photoshoot. His left hand is even raised in the photo because he was hugging me by the shoulders. So my mother-in-law does it on purpose?

My husband responded to my indignant questions by saying that I shouldn’t pay attention to it. He said that his mother wasn’t sure whether we were serious about our future together. When we had a baby, everything would definitely change, and besides, it wasn’t worth worrying about such trifles. At the time of this conversation, I was already pregnant. I decided that my husband was right. And with the birth of the baby, my mother-in-law would change her attitude towards me.

After I gave birth to her long-awaited grandson, nothing changed. I was not in the photos on my mother-in-law's page again, where Albert took my son and me from the hospital, nor in the photo from my son's baptism. My husband again said that it was just a coincidence, not worth my attention, but I don't think so.

There are too many coincidences. So I am sure that in this way my mother-in-law demonstrates her true attitude towards me. Of course, such an attitude towards me is terribly unpleasant. And in general, do I deserve contempt and constant dissatisfaction?
