I don't really need my mother-in-law's help, we manage on our own.

But she keeps arousing pity by telling us how hard her life is because she saves every extra penny for us, but doesn't eat, doesn't drink and generally deprives herself of everything.

Of course, my husband feels sorry for her and throws money at her, which she refuses for a long time and artificially, but in the end she takes it anyway, saying that she will spend some of it on herself and the rest in the account where her large savings for us are kept.

Barbara, my husband's mother, from the first official meeting with me as her son's future wife, solemnly declared that she would save money for our wedding. Although neither I nor my husband asked her to do so and had no intention of organizing a wedding as such, my husband's mother convinced us that we still needed a wedding, so she would save from her next salary.

Well, a boss is a boss. We also started thinking about the wedding. We counted on our mother-in-law to help us with the preparations, but her bank was always closed, either because of problems with her account or because she couldn't withdraw the money at that moment. Let me explain: two years passed between her declaration that she would save and our wedding. This is a normal period to save something, and if you save as Barbara said, when she only spent money on utilities and a little on food, the amount should be very significant.

Okay, we got married without the help of my husband's mother, who immediately said after the wedding that since the wedding didn't work out, she would continue saving, but for our apartment. The issue of housing was important to us, at the time we lived in a rented apartment. My husband and I were saving for ourselves and decided that if our parents wanted to help us financially, we would just put money aside for a mortgage.

My mother-in-law sang like a nightingale about how hard she was saving money for us. At the same time, she didn't forget to complain about how expensive life had become – medicine, food, utilities. My mother-in-law herself looked a bit worse – her coat was already frayed in places, her shoes were getting more and more worn, and every time we visited her, the fridge was empty.

Until recently, I was convinced that my husband's mother was saving everything for us, until I came over to her house unannounced once because I was on my way from my parents' house and had to give her some cakes from my mother. My mother-in-law was so confused when she saw me in the doorway that she didn't even resist when I went to the kitchen.

In addition to the pancakes, there was a three-liter jar of country milk in the package, which my mother also gave to my mother-in-law, because a mother-in-law shouldn't lift heavy things. She had beautiful sweets, cookies, cheese and sausage on the table and was probably going to have a cup of tea, but then I suddenly appeared.

Well, I noticed everything around me, left the packages and quickly ran home, giving up on doing my business. It became clear that my mother-in-law's concerts with an empty fridge were especially for us, because we always warned her about our visits. So she saved up for us to buy an apartment, but we never saw any money from her. Neither for the down payment nor later, when we took out a mortgage.”
