Real-Life. “Daughter Deprived Child of Father, Now She Doesn't Know What to Do”: New Husband Not Willing to Raise Stepson

My daughter put herself, me and her child in a very bad situation.

First of all, of course, I feel sorry for my grandson. He lives with me, although he has both a father and a mother. But the boy is almost an orphan, and his parents are still alive. After the divorce, my daughter behaved very badly. My son-in-law is of course not a gift from heaven either, he himself caused the divorce, his wife caught him red-handed as in a joke. But he didn't give up on the child.

Every meeting was a scandal, almost to the point that we called the police. My son-in-law asked me to talk to her and threatened to take my daughter to court, but what was the point? My conversations didn't make my daughter feel better or worse. My son-in-law never went to court, and the police, who were regularly called by my daughter and son-in-law, couldn't do anything, everything was decided by the court.

Finally, my son-in-law gave in, started paying good alimony, and stopped seeing his son. My daughter was happy, but I wanted to punch her in the head. What a stupid woman! She left her son without a father. My husband may not have been a good son-in-law, but he was a good father, you can't take that away from him. But the key word is “was”.

My daughter and grandson lived with me. We had a two-room apartment, the grandson was still small and there was enough space for everyone. Even though my son-in-law paid good alimony, it was still too little. But when the boy went to school, everything became easier. My daughter also breathed a sigh of relief. Her son started getting sick less, became more responsible and didn't require as much of her time.

She finally found some time for herself. I can't say that my daughter had let herself go before, but she still didn't have time to be particularly involved in her personal life. And then she started to blossom.

I wasn't surprised when I realized that my daughter had an admirer. She was still young, only thirty-two at the time, she didn't give up raising her son, but she started going on dates, going away for weekends, spending more and more time with her new boyfriend.

Sometimes she would take her son with her, although I didn't like the idea. Why drag the child to some unknown uncle who wasn't even engaged yet? But it seemed that my grandson and my daughter's boyfriend got along well. At least she started taking him with her more often. It was clear that the grandson liked such walks too. After all, it was very important for a boy to have a father in his life. But because of his absence, the grandson sought support from other men around him.

When my daughter told me that her Gracjan had proposed to her, I had mixed feelings. I was happy for my daughter, but at the same time I was afraid for my grandson. But my daughter quickly calmed me down. She said that her son and Gracjan had become very good friends. My daughter moved straight to her fiancé, but left my grandson with me.

She said that Gracjan's apartment still needed some renovation, and then she would take her son. I thought it was strange, but what could I do? The renovation was done, the wedding took place, and I still have my grandson.

This time the newlyweds wanted to have some time for themselves, a honeymoon. I don't know how a child could interfere with their honeymoon in a two-room apartment. But the fact is that my grandson still lived with me. Then they came up with a few more excuses that would probably still sound good to me, but I cornered my daughter and demanded an explanation.

It turned out that the new husband had a daughter who didn't want to live with her stepbrother, and the ex-son-in-law had started a new family and stopped fighting for his son. The daughter put herself in this situation. If she has more children, let her handle it on her own…
