Ready for any mission: the US presented a new P550 “spy” drone with AI and explosives

Reconnaissance UAV P550 is deployed in 10 minutes, can fly up to 5 hours and perform missions in autonomous mode, the manufacturer claims.

The American company AeroVironment presented at the annual meeting and exhibition of the Association of the US Army a new unmanned aerial vehicle P550, which can conduct reconnaissance and drop on the enemy ammunition. Interesting Engineering portal writes about it.

It is reported that P550 — is a vertical take-off and landing drone designed to increase the situational awareness of soldiers on the battlefield. The UAV has dimensions of 5.2 meters by 2.8 meters, weighs approximately 24.9 kg, and can also carry up to 7 kilograms of explosives. Declared working hours — up to 5 hours, communication range — 40 km, but can be increased to 60 km. The UAV can be controlled remotely or work autonomously.

The modular design of the UAV makes it possible to install different payloads, data transmission channels and mission planning software, adapting the device to different missions. According to the manufacturer, the drone can be reconfigured in the field in less than five minutes by replacing payloads and batteries without the use of special tools. The drone fits easily in a small Humvee SUV or in a three-pack case. In addition, it can be assembled without tools and ready to fly in less than 10 minutes after unpacking.

The drone is equipped with a VNS Day/Night VIO navigation system with laser terrain recognition, and also has flexible radio communication capabilities with frequency switching. In addition, the UAV received the AVACORE autonomous control system and the SPOTR-Edge computer vision system for on-board detection, which significantly reduces the burden on the operator.

“Ready for any mission, at any time” , — it is on the manufacturer's website.
