The candidate for leadership of the Alberta's New Democratic Party (NDP) Rakhi Pancholi withdrew from the race Tuesday morning. She announced her support for candidate and former Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi.

The MP for Edmonton-Whitemud made the announcement on the X platform in a video lasting just under four minutes.

Running for leadership of the Alberta NDP was the honor of my career. I am very proud of the bold, hopeful and optimistic story we told about Alberta,” she said.

But today, I am ending my campaign to support Naheed Nenshi in our common goal of growing this party in every corner of our province, she added.

She claims that since Mr. Nenshi's candidacy, the number of party members has increased significantly.

Recently, all NDP leadership candidates received an update on party card sales. The first update since Naheed Nenshi entered the race.

These numbers show that in the space of a week, Naheed more than doubled the number of NDP members.
