Prime Minister Donald Tusk was taken to hospital and underwent surgery. There is an official statement

Donald Tusk underwent a medical procedure. What happened?

On Sunday afternoon, the Government Information Center reported that Prime Minister Donald Tusk underwent a planned medical procedure, after which he will return to his official duties on Wednesday. This means that the head of government will not take part in the celebrations of the National Independence Day on November 11.

The issued statement of the Government Information Center explains that the procedure that the prime minister underwent was planned, but no details were given about the type of medical intervention performed. Donald Tusk himself has not commented on it publicly either. The prime minister was assured that he will return to his duties next Wednesday, which means he will miss the official Independence Day celebrations, Goniec reports.

Just before undergoing the procedure, Prime Minister Tusk participated in a meeting of the Civic Platform national board, where the decision was announced to organize primaries in the Civic Coalition, which will select one candidate for the future president. The competition will be attended by the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski.

Rafał Trzaskowski emphasized that it is crucial for the primaries to strengthen the candidates and give them a strong mandate. He also noted that both he and Sikorski are well known to the Polish public. Prime Minister Tusk confirmed that it was Rafał Trzaskowski who proposed the primaries, and Radosław Sikorski supported it without reservation.

Donald Tusk announced that the primaries would be held in November, and all members of the Civic Coalition would have the right to vote. „The choice is limited to two candidates and we do not plan to nominate new candidates” – the Prime Minister added, emphasizing that the entire formation is focusing on a transparent electoral process aimed at selecting a candidate with strong social support.

The Civic Coalition primaries are expected to attract a lot of attention, given the rank of the candidates and the imminent prospect of the presidential elections.
