Pedro Almodovar Would Love to Make This Crazy Movie With Zendaya

The immense director Pedro Almodovar has a new project in mind. A totally crazy and unexpected idea that concerns a certain Zendaya. We explain everything here.

The Return by Pedro Almodovar?

Is it really necessary to introduce Pedro Almodovar? Today aged 75, Pedro Almodovar has more than 50 years of career and cult films like All About My Mother (1999), Talk to Her (2002), Volver (2005), Broken Embraces (2009) or Pain and Glory (2019). His latest feature film, Parallel Mothers, with Penélope Cruz, dates back to 2021. Since then, the filmmaker has been more discreet, even though he directed a short film, Strange Way of Life, led by Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.

At 75, Pedro Almodovar doesn't seem tired of directing films. He often has new ideas that germinate and doesn't seem ready to retire. The proof is in this new totally crazy idea, which concerns Zendaya and her stylist.

A totally what the fuck film?

Indeed, Pedro Almodovar would like to produce and direct a film around Zendaya and her stylist, Law Roach. Indeed, the Spanish director really likes the clothing eccentricities of the interpreter of MJ in the latest Spider-Man saga. During an interview with Vanity Fair, the filmmaker dwelt on this unusual idea and justified his desire to produce such a film:

I asked about Law Roach, and I was told that he is just as much of a diva as she is. I would love to make a film about them, a mix between Eve and The Devil Wears Prada.

Law Roach is an influential figure among Hollywood stars. He has dressed many contemporary personalities including Anya Taylor-Joy, Ariana Grande and Celine Dion. But, in 2023, a dramatic turn of events, Law Roach retired, tired of the Hollywood environment and its toxicity. At the time, he explained his choice in an Instagram post:

If this industry was all about clothes, I would do it for the rest of my life, but unfortunately, it isn't. Politics, lies, and rumors got to me. You guys won… I'm leaving.

However, he later backtracked, in part, on his decision. He clarified that from now on, he would work exclusively with his friend Zendaya:

She’s my little sister and that’s true love, not the fake love of the industry.

And it is also this relationship between the two artists that interests Almodovar. Passionate about fashion himself, he would very much like to bring this story to the screen, and has even made a call for projects to the microphone of Vanity Fair:

That would make a great comedy. It would be about a character who is the ultimate authority on fashion, and a stylist who wants to achieve that position in the celebrity world, who seeks them out, talks to fashion houses, and has them try on clothes all the time. If you are a screenwriter and you come up with an idea like that, I would love to develop it.

The message has been received. In the meantime, Pedro Almodovar will soon be back on screens since he has just finished The Room Next Door, his next film. It will be his first feature film in English. The project is led by Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, and will tell the story of a very imperfect mother and a resentful daughter separated by a great misunderstanding. Release soon.
