North Korea has successfully conducted a major test of its missile with multiple warheads, state news agency KCNA reported on Thursday.
The test was conducted on Wednesday, June 26, using the first stage engine of a solid-fuel medium- and long-range ballistic missile, Reuters reported.
A day earlier, South Korea's military said North Korea had launched a hypersonic missile toward its east coast, but it exploded in mid-air.
KCNA said the missile's warheads separated successfully and accurately headed for three pre-set targets.
“The purpose of the test was to ensure the ability to destroy multiple targets with multiple warheads,” the statement said.
South Korea, the United States and Japan condemned the launch as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and a serious threat.
