UN OCHA representative described conditions in places where displaced people are arriving as “horrific”
Senior UN official says that more than 800,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip since the start of Israel's ground offensive two weeks ago.
"The once-crowded refugee camps and shelters in Rafah are now virtually empty. Most of the displaced people are seeking refuge in Khan Younis and Deir el-Balah"– said the Director of Operations of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosornu, speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council, according to Voice of America.
According to her, the conditions in the places where they arrive are “terrifying.” : There are problems with toilets, clean water, sewage and shelter.
"These dire conditions raise serious doubts about the fulfillment of these basic obligations", – Vosorn said.
She said that the UN and the organization's partners are facing problems in providing assistance to displaced people because they cannot deliver supplies to Gaza on the required scale.
