Moldova to receive equipment to intercept drones from the EU

Moldova will receive drone interception equipment from the European Union in 2025. This will help the country prevent unauthorized flights of foreign UAVs over its territory.

The European Union will provide Moldova with drone interception equipment. This was announced on December 9 by the head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Janis Mazeijs, on the air on Radio Moldova, writes UNN with reference to NewsMaker.

Details

According to the diplomat's calculations, this equipment for intercepting UAVs will be delivered as early as 2025.

According to the diplomat, Brussels has already approved the deliveries, but their delivery will take time.

“The equipment will help prevent situations when foreign drones enter the territory of Moldova,” he emphasized Mazeikis.

Let us recall

Since the beginning of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, drone flights have been repeatedly observed in Moldova or the wreckage of crashed drones has been discovered. For example, on November 28, residents of the village of Birnovo reported that they had noticed missiles flying over, after which they heard explosions in Ukraine, in the area of the Novodniestrovsk hydroelectric power station.

After that, the country's Defense Minister Anatoly Nosatiy stated that the Russian military “carefully chooses a flight path near the Moldovan borders” in order to hit targets in western Ukraine. As a result, it is very difficult to establish whether Russian missiles violated Moldovan airspace.

On December 3, it was reported that debris from a UAV was found in the  Orhei district of Moldova near the village of Pidhoreni.
