In December 2024, users complained about crashes in games with HDR mode. When this feature was enabled, the picture became oversaturated and high-contrast. Microsoft soon confirmed the problem and blocked the Windows 11 update for PCs with HDR monitors. It turned out that the error was related to the Auto HDR feature, which expands the color range, which sometimes caused games to freeze.
After the update was released and the updates were unlocked, the situation improved, but the January Windows 11 update KB5050009 caused new problems. Users reported malfunctions of Bluetooth headphones, devices connected via an external USB DAC, and problems with the error “Camera not detected”.
Switching applications using Alt+Tab could also cause the system to freeze. In some cases, a complete reinstallation of the operating system was required to resolve the problems. Microsoft quickly released update KB5050094, which fixed the above issues, including incorrect color display when HDR mode is enabled.
The Windows 11 2024 Update is available through “Windows Update” and will be automatically installed on eligible unmanaged systems running Windows 11 Home and Pro versions 22H2 and 23H2. However, the update is not available for devices with incompatible configurations or software such as Safe Exam Browser and Easy Anti-Cheat.
Also in mid-January, Microsoft lifted the restriction on updating Windows 11 to version 24H2 for computers with Assassin’s Creed games installed.
