Medical college student stored child porn on his laptop

A medical college student stored child pornography downloaded from the Internet on his own gadgets. Last week, the Dnipro District Court sentenced him.

As stated in the case materials, in the period from June 1 to August 30, a student of the Kamian Vocational Medical College using MuTorrent downloaded 1216 graphic and 239 video files, which he stored on his own laptop and mobile phone for personal viewing.

On the morning of August 30, a search was conducted at his residence, during which SSD and HDD drives and a mobile phone were seized. According to the expert's conclusion, the files stored by the student belong to works of a pornographic nature, containing child pornography.

He was charged with committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 301-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional acquisition and storage of child pornography without the purpose of sale or distribution).

When deciding on the issue of imposing a punishment on the student, the court took into account his sincere remorse.

Last week, the Dnipro District Court found the accused guilty of committing the incriminated criminal offense and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment, with deprivation of the right to engage in educational and/or educational activities of persons under the age of 18, to hold positions related to working with persons under the age of 18 for a period of 2 (two) years. However, the student was released from serving the sentence with a probationary period of 2 years.

The court also decided to recover from the convicted person in favor of the state the costs of conducting computer-technical and art-scientific examinations in the total amount of 49,214 hryvnias 82 kopecks.

The material evidence – three mobile phones, a hard drive and a laptop of the brand «Lenovo» – will be forcibly confiscated free of charge into the property of the state by the court decision in the order of special confiscation.
