MediaTek introduces Dimensity 8400: a new chip for smartphones

On December 23, MediaTek introduced the new Dimensity 8400 chipset, which promises to be a significant step forward in the world of mobile technology. This processor not only provides impressive performance, but also demonstrates high energy efficiency, making it ideal for modern smartphones.

What is known about the chipset

The Dimensity 8400 uses an architecture with a “full large core”, which is actively used in flagship products. It is equipped with 8 large Arm Cortex-A725 cores with a frequency of up to 3.25 GHz. Through optimization, power consumption is reduced by 35%, and the L2 cache is doubled, which contributes to improved performance and energy efficiency. The overall test result of the processor exceeded 1.8 million points, indicating its high power. With the improved architecture, the Dimensity 8400 has demonstrated a 44% reduction in power consumption of multi-core processors compared to the previous generation.

In the field of artificial intelligence, the chipset is equipped with the flagship MediaTek NPU 880 processor. The joint operation of fully large cores and a powerful NPU significantly improves the speed of data processing, including integer and floating point, as well as the speed of language model processing and image generation. The Dimensity 8400 supports the MediaTek Dimensity AI intelligent engine, which allows you to work with artificial intelligence models on the device, such as the large language model and Stable Diffusion 1.5, which greatly improves multimedia content generation and text processing.

In terms of graphics, the Dimensity 8400 is equipped with an Arm Mali-G720 GPU, which is 24% higher in performance than the previous chip. The power consumption of this GPU is reduced by 42%, and its capabilities allow it to support advanced technologies such as hardware ray tracing and variable-rate rendering. For image processing, the chipset features a MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP, as well as a built-in QPD zoom engine, which provides fast and accurate focusing thanks to deep focus.

For gamers, the Dimensity 8400 has a unique Star Speed engine. This algorithm allows for dynamic resource scheduling in real time, taking into account game requirements and device temperature, ensuring stable and smooth gameplay. Frame doubling technology allows for extended gaming time while reducing device temperature even at 60 frames per second.
