Marvel: 10 Underrated MCU Characters We Totally Forgot About

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of iconic and impactful characters, some of them have gradually fallen into oblivion. This is the case with these 10 characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that we have completely forgotten about, especially because Marvel Studios stopped to exploit them…

THE LEADER

Well, we know, he's going to make his big comeback in Captain America: Brave New World. Played by Tim Blake Nelson, this character made his first (and only) appearance in The Incredible Hulk in 2008. He played Samuel Sterns, a scientist who decides to help Bruce Banner fight against the gamma rays that are corrupting his body. At the end of the film, Hulk's blood contaminates Sterns' blood. The last image we have of the character is that of a poor man transforming into a disgusting creature. Comic book readers know that Samuel Sterns is the Leader, a recurring enemy of Hulk. However, the MCU has never again exploited the character who has fallen into oblivion. But Captain America: Brave New World will be the film of returns since Tim Blake Nelson will make his comeback in the MCU, as will Liv Tyler who will reprise the role of Betty Ross.

THE DEFENDERS

Apart from Daredevil who is slowly but surely starting to make his big comeback in the MCU, what happened to the other Defenders ? Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Elektra are currently absent from subscribers. However, the Marvel/Netflix series had met with some success. So much so that Charlie Cox has been making his return as Daredevil in the MCU for a few years now. But his comrades are currently left aside…

WHITE VISION

In 2021, the MCU launches on Disney+ with WandaVision. In this first official MCU series, Wanda decides to change the reality of an entire small town: Westview.Inside this microcosm that she herself created, she brings back to life Vision, the love of her life coldly murdered by Thanos. At the end of the series, the government decides to create another version of Vision to try to stop Wanda: the White Vision. At the end of the show, this new character escapes into the wild. And since that moment, we have never heard from the character again…

PHIL COULSON

Initially, Phil Coulson is assassinated by Loki in the first Avengers. However, Marvel decides to bring him back to life for the needs of the series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The character also makes a return in Captain Marvel. But since the series ended in 2020, we don't really know what happened to Phil Coulson, and we never saw him again… An oversight? Or does Marvel have something in store for his possible return?

JUSTIN HAMMER

Played by Sam Rockwell, Justin Hammer was Tony Stark's direct competitor in Iron Man 2. An arms dealer, he tried to outsmart Tony Stark with the government. But faced with the strength of Stark's enterprise, Justin Hammer decided to turn to unsavory clients like Whiplash.Since then, the character has only been seen once, in 2014, in the short film Long Live the King. A short film in which viewers learn that the Mandarin really exists, and that Justin Hammer is incarcerated in a maximum security prison. But since then, nothing… 10 years since Sam Rockwell returned to the MCU…

DOC SAMSON

Another character from The Incredible Hulk totally neglected… In the Louis Leterrier film, Bruce and Betty are no longer together. Betty Ross then goes out with Leonard Samson, played by Ty Burrell. In the comics, Leonard Samson is also known as Doc Samson. The latter is an ally of Hulk, and Bruce Banner's psychiatrist. Created in 1971, he possesses superhuman strength and extraordinary intelligence. An extremely secondary character in The Incredible Hulk, we have never seen Ty Burrell in the MCU, nor his character, since then. But there is a good chance that the character will be back in Captain America: Brave New World, who knows, in his Doc Samson form.

PATRIOT

We briefly saw him in the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Played by the young Elijah Richardson, the young Patriotmakes a very brief appearance in the series by Malcolm Spellman. However, this Young Avenger has not yet been recalled within the MCU, despite the intensive development of this team of young superheroes. So, where the hell is Patriot?

THE HANDYMAN

His name may not mean anything to you, but The Tinkerer is indeed in the MCU. We can indeed meet him in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Indeed, he is part of the Vulture team. Michael Keaton's character actually surrounds himself with iconic comic book characters like Shocker and the Scorpion. But in addition to these characters who are quite famous among comic book readers, we can also come across a certain Bricoleur in the film by Jon Watts. Played by Michael Chernus, we only see him for a few moments tinkering with weapons for the Vulture. Created in 1963, The Bricoleur is a recurring antagonist in the universe of Spider-Man. A genius in mechanics and technology, he uses his knowledge to do evil. His intelligence and ability to create weapons and gadgets make him a valuable ally for many criminals, especially Spider-Man's enemies.

EGGHEAD

Yes, Egghead is also in the MCU since we meet him in Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018. Indeed, the actor Michael Cerveris plays Eliah Starr in the Peyton Reed film. In the Marvel blockbuster, the latter is the father of Ghost, and a former colleague of Hank Pym. But in the comics, Eliah Starr is the alter ego of Egghead. Created in 1962, Egghead is a former scientist who worked for the American Government. While trying to sell classified information, Egghead is disbarred, and then turns to crime. Without powers, this somewhat pejorative nickname comes from his large bald skull. In the Peyton Reed film, he dies during the explosion of the quantum machine.

TIGRA

And yes, Tigra also makes a brief appearance in the MCU. But on this one, you had to be an informed viewer. Indeed, at the beginning of Hawkeye, Kate Bishop receives a call from a friend named Greer. An appointment that was probably not chosen at random since it is Tigra's real name. Created in 1972, Tigra is a tiger woman. An ambiguous character, she works more with the good guys than the bad guys, but her difficult personality makes her a violent anti-heroine. We can't wait to see her land in the flesh and fur in the MCU.
