System outages at McDonald's were being reported around the world Friday, forcing some restaurants to close for hours and leading to complaints from customers on social media, in what the fast food chain called a “technology failure” that is being repaired.

We are aware of a technology outage that has affected our restaurants; The issue is being resolved, the burger giant said in a statement. We thank our customers for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Earlier, McDonald's Japan reported on X, formerly Twitter, that operations are temporarily suspended at many of our stores across the country, citing a system failure.
The website Downdetector also reported a spike in issues with the McDonald's app over the past few hours.
A McDonald's branch in Tokyo, Japan, tells customers with a sign in its main door that the restaurant is closed due to an internal computer system error.
Some McDonald's restaurants were operating normally again after the outage, with customers ordering and getting their meals in Bangkok, Milan and London.
At a Bangkok restaurant, the door was covered with a plywood sign reading technicians updating system and apologizing for the inconvenience, even as customers were able to order and pay again digitally.
