It was her sons Chris Larkins and Toby Stephens who announced this sad news, declaring that the actor who played Professor McGonagall in the cinema “died peacefully in hospital early this morning“. The British actress ““was a very private person but was with her friends and family at the end of her life.” Maggie Smith leaves behind two sons and five grandchildren who say they are “devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.” The actress's family would like to thank all the expressions of affection and messages of support from the public and ask that their privacy be respected.
