MacBook Pro in a new design with an OLED screen will be released in 2026

Apple plans to introduce an updated MacBook Pro with an OLED display in 2026. According to The Elec, the device will receive a radically new, thinner design, the development of which is actively being carried out by Apple engineers.

What is known about the new product

Samsung Display has already begun production of test OLED panels for the new MacBook Pro on its new 8th generation line, which started in November 2024. The annual supply of such displays is expected to be between 3 and 5 million units. At the same time, Samsung Display may need to attract additional customers to optimize production capacity, as its line is designed to produce up to 10 million panels (equivalent to 14.3-inch screens).

The new MacBook Pro will likely use hybrid OLED technology, similar to that used in the latest iPad Pro. It combines a glass substrate with a thin-film encapsulation, which provides higher brightness, improved contrast, and better power efficiency than the current MacBook Pro mini-LED displays.

Samsung Display has invested about $3 billion in an 8th-generation OLED production line focused on laptop panels. Chinese manufacturer BOE is also working on hybrid OLED display technologies, but its line will be more versatile, supporting both hybrid and flexible panels.

Despite these plans, analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Yang claim that the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros will continue to use mini-LED displays until at least 2025. Meanwhile, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the next MacBook Pros, expected in 2025, will only receive minor performance improvements thanks to the new M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips, the development of which is in the final stages.
