Laure Manaudou trains in kinesiology, the media immediately criticizes

Guyot/AFP Laure Manaudou trains in kinesiology, the media immediately criticizes

She was an Olympic champion and a consultant during the Games, but when she explains that she trained in kinesiology to help others, Laure Manaudou is confronted with the media stone wall that immediately warns against sectarian excesses. Always the same old story.

To Femme Actuelle, Laure Manaudou revealed some details of her private life at the end of September. After trying her hand at swimsuit design, perfumery, and cooking with the Meilleur Pâtissier, the former swimmer announced that she had “validated 600 hours of training” in kinesiology. She just has to pass the certification to be able to apply what she has learned, on the border between health and well-being.

Without a moment's hesitation, the media armada falls upon her and sounds the alarm. “What is kinesiology? ? It's Miviludes that talks about it best.”, writes the 20minutes, before roughly sketching the outlines of a practice whose “theories” are “developed by these pseudo therapists” who make you risk nothing more and nothing less than a “mental hold”. Scientific studies prove nothing so it is to be avoided like the plague.

In fact, kinesiology is literally the “science of movement”. These are holistic techniques (i.e. they consider the body, emotions and mind as a single whole) focused on the link between a person's muscular state and their overall state of health, applied sometimes by chiropractors, osteopaths, or even dentists. And even if there are not many of them, they are not necessarily dangerous… The idea is simply to establish a direct dialogue with the body, to identify the factors that create stress or blockage by using the muscles, and then rebalance its general state. In other words, learning to feel good by listening to your body.

“How to manage in a group, how to help people psychologically is something that fascinates me,” says Laure Manaudou to justify the interest she can bring to both corporate conferences and kinesiology. As a result, the media show her off for this open-mindedness, just as they showed off Novak Djokovic when he dared to speak out about the anti-Covid-19 vaccine and instead promote sport and healthy eating. But, after all, who are the champions ?
