Landslide in Papua – New Guinea: death toll may exceed 2,000 people

Landslide that hit the village of Yambali in Papua – More than two thousand people were allegedly buried alive in New Guinea on the night of Friday, May 24, the government of this Pacific country reported.  Associated Press.

The village is located in a troubled area in the interior of the country, complicating search and rescue efforts.

The government estimate of the death toll is about three times higher than the UN estimate.

According to an international organization, 670 people died as a result of the landslide.

At the moment, the remains of only six people have been found.
