Jerusalem Jews Protest Military Conscription

Tens of thousands of men rallied in an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Jerusalem on June 30 to protest military conscription, the Times of Israel reports.

Israeli police reported that protesters threw stones, lit fires, and set trash cans on fire.

Protesters carried signs reading “We will not serve in the enemy army.” and “We will die rather than be drafted,” blocking an intersection leading to the capital's ultra-Orthodox district.

In addition, protesters attacked a car that was transporting Housing Minister Yitzhak Goldnopf.

The car of Yaakov Litzman, a former official who is himself the head and member of the ultra-Orthodox party, was also damaged.
